Thermostatic shower mixers connect directly to your hot and cold water supplies and then thermostatically mix the water inside the shower to your selected temperature. Mixer showers generally deliver a higher flow rate than electric showers and are mostly thermostatic.  If you have low water pressures say from a gravity fed system you can install a shower pump that will increase you flow rate, probably best to consult your professional installer for advice.
